Spriting for beginners [fireworks]

Post by TahGamer on Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:50 pm

Welcome to my new tutorial on how to sprite,This tutorial will teach you the basics of spriting and all that good stuff so moving on....

Also, you must know how to make and open files in fireworks. It's not hard.

Programs needed Wink
Macromedia fireworks 8 and up

Now spriting is creating a work of pixels and imagery. Not for skill and fame. It's supposed to be fun and relaxing (in some people's cases) so let's begin shall we.

Now,If you want to sprite a sword or something you must outline it with a line tool.If you don't know whats a line tool you must be a retard noob. Now I'm going to create a outline (you may use if you want).

This outline is a basic sword I thought out of my head,Now if you created your own outline or your using mine it's time to color it.
Now there's a variety of colors in fireworks, that's what makes it special in spriting
Now,Spriting in fireworks takes time so be patient. Now lets choose a color
I'm going to color the sword's blade blue so I'm going to find a blue color here.

Now,We got to magnify the view of the outline so that we can sprite it better,to do this just right click and follow.

Now we got this.

Now were ready to color it in.Now to color you must simply use the line tool with the color you want and then use the pointer tool and so on and so on so here is my result.

Isn't the best sprite work you ever seen but it's a start,The more you practice the better you get.Moving on...

Shading Rocking out

Now shading is what enhances sprited imagery,Shading isn't just darkening it is also lightning the picture. So moving on...
I'm going to darken (which ever you prefer first),here is a Kirby sprite I ripped, you may use your own sprite but I suggest you use this one to learn on.

Now,Magnify the view.

Now I'm going to introduce you to a new tool, the eye dropper tool

This tool is used for a lot of things but were focused on shading so moving on...

Use the eye dropper tool and click it on a pixel.
Now go to left and you will see the color you eye dropped
here is mine

Now we are going darken/light it follow these pictures

Now you will bring this up

Now fireworks has just found the color right in the rainbow color scale,See in the right
There is a bar,it represents how bright or dark it is,Now drag the bar up for more brightness and down for more darkening,Once you got the color, save it as a custom color
and use the line tool and place the pixel over the selected pixel. So yes here is the creativity part, shading is like a character in a sunset there is shadow shades all over the body or light shades so now think that kirby is there in the sunset and shade him.Lets see my result

I combined both light and darkening and put some pixels there and there and TA!!! DA!!!
You got one godly looking Kirby.

Now let's move on

Recoloring Guitar

I know it is a maple site but spriters need to know the basics before they sprite maple style.
