Python Tutorial - Extracting from Maplestory''s WZ Files
This works really well seeing as the images that it extracts doesn't have those blue bars.
The downside is that it takes a lot of space to hold all of the images and can take up to hours just to extract them all from the .wz file.
If you think your computer can handle the massive size and you're patient enough, read on.
Otherwise, I suggest you go use Maple Dump.
Thanks to Gregio for the links to Python and it's extractor.
Also thanks to Gregio for the original instructions.
Thanks to Tevin for the link to gMS v0.55
Prerequisite:
-gMS v0.55 OR gMS v0.55 Map.wz
-Lots of space memory.
Get gMS v0.55 here.
If you only want THE MAPS and NOTHING ELSE, get gMS v0.55's Map.wz here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ea4441/n/Map_wz_rar
Once you have gMS v0.55 WZ files...
Go to Python's Download Page.
Download the correct version for your operating system.
(For Window's users, you want the 3rd download, the one that says "Python x.x.x Windows installer")

Apparently, the lot of you don't understand what "x.x.x" means.
"x.x.x" is the version number, like "2.5.6" or "9.6.3" or "13.3.7".
x.x.x will vary based on what time you look at the webpage.
Install Python anywhere.
Download dump.py and stick it anywhere for the moment.
(This is the program that will extract the images.)
Now copy the .wz file that you wish to extract from (most likely map.wz).

Create a new folder where you want your extracted images to be.

Paste your .wz file into that folder.

Place the dump.py file in the same folder as the .wz file.

Rename your .wz file to String.wz

Double click dump.py (or run it anyway possible).
Something like this should pop up and start running.

Wait (possibly a really long time) for the extraction to finish.
After it is done extracting, the popup will disappear, and you will be left with a folder called "String". This will have all the images you need.
Congratulations, now you have extracted images.
Their names are pretty random, so you have to rely on thumbnails when you view them.
COMMON ISSUES:
Q: I doubled clicked dump.py but a black box pops up for a second then disappears.
A: Make sure for one that the WZ file you wish to extract is named String.wz. That includes the capital S as well. You might also want to make sure you're using a gMS v0.55 WZ file and not from one that you "accidentally" update.
Q: Can I use any version past v0.55?
A: No. Nexon changed their file encoding starting from v0.56 so they aren't possible to extract from.
Q: Uhhh, which do I keep? Update or String?
A: Keep the Update folder. It really doesn't matter, but you can delete one.
Q: I can't see file extensions...
A: It shouldn't really matter, just name it to String and don't worry about the .WZ extension.
Q: My Map.wz that I downloaded from you is an RAR file o_o
A: Be sure to extract the Map.wz file INSIDE the RAR file before using.
Q: It says my .WZ file is still in use!
A: Either Maplestory is running or some program managed to get access to the file and still thinks it's using it. You can simply solve this by restarting your computer. If restarting doesn't work, then I don't know.
Q: I followed all your steps, but it's still not working! What's wrong?
A: There have been rumors that this extracting doesn't work with Microsoft Vista. Although I can't confirm it, there might truly be a bug. So if you can't extract... tough luck e_e

We ARE trying to find a way to extract 'em.
I have evenforced asked Light's pseudo-hacker of a boyfriend to try and crack 'em, but there's been no progress so far.
Not to mention it's not only us, but people all around, hackers forums, etc...

For obvious reasons, I've also extracted the Sound, Skill, Effect, UI, Item, and Morph wizet files. Anybody have any luck with extracting the Mob wizet file? I've tried but it doesn't work.

Re: Python Tutorial - Extracting from Maplestory's WZ Files
i did all i see is ths Download Standard Python Software
Note: there's a security fix for Python 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4. Of the releases below, only 2.4.4 and 2.5 and later include the fix. Python 2.6 is not affected.
The current production version is Python 2.6. You should start here if you want to learn Python or if you want the most stable version. Here are some quick download links. For the MD5 checksums and OpenPGP signatures, look at the detailed Python 2.6 page:
*
Python 2.6 compressed source tarball (for Linux, Unix or OS X)
*
Python 2.6 bzipped source tarball (for Linux, Unix or OS X, more compressed)
*
Python 2.6 Windows installer
(Windows binary -- does not include source)
*
Python 2.6 Windows AMD64 installer (Windows AMD64 binary -- does not include source)
*
Python 2.6 Windows Itanium installer (Windows Itanium binary -- does not include source)
*
Python 2.6 for Macintosh OS X -- this is a universal installer that runs native on both PPC and Intel Macs.
This is a list of the standard releases, providing both source and binary installers. Consider your needs carefully before using a version other than the current production version:
* Python 2.6 (October 1, 2008)
* Python 2.5.2 (February 22, 2008)
* Python 2.5.1 (April 18, 2007)
* Python 2.4.5 (March 11, 2008)
* Python 2.3.7 (March 11, 2008)
* Python 2.2.3 (May 30, 2003)
* Python 2.1.3 (April 8, 2002)
* Python 2.0.1 (June 2001) :|

You have to run Python on the desktop in the folder. It won't work in your documents or anything like that.

Re: Python Tutorial - Extracting from Maplestory's WZ Files
Guys, I took the screen shot a while ago.
The point of "X.X.X" means that the version # will continue to change so it doesn't matter.
Just make sure it's the "Window's Installer".

Don't backseat moderate. >_>
Leave it to the moderaters to decide whether one should get warned or not.

I don't know. I just took the Monsters file from Anton's resources. I didnt bother extracting them from the .wz file.

So did I, but I thought the .wz file would be more updated.
